Economic Data, Europe trump Debt Deal Premium to be Mined for Call Sellers

The recent slough of bearish economic data combined with renewed fears of European default have cast a pall across US and global recovery hopes. In fact, slowing manufacturing, falling GDP figures and still stubborn unemployment now present the very real possibility of a “double dip” recession as we head into 2012. Both equities and to a lesser extent, commodities have reacted sharply to the downside this week. This is not necessarily a bad thing if you are an option seller.

Soybeans watch Weather, not Debt talks

7-20 As  markets such as stocks, gold and currencies hold their breath awaiting results of US and European debt talks, soybean traders have little time for such nominal concerns. In soybeans, this time of year is all about the weather. The month of August is typically a critical time for soybean crop development as the plants enter their “podding” phase.
